Thermcraft Acquires Contemporary Kilns, Inc.

Acquisition Expands Thermcraft’s Presence into the Quartz Fabrication Industry

Winston Salem, North Carolina, September 24th, 2009 Acquisition Expands Thermcraft’s Presence into the Quartz Fabrication Industry WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— September 24, 2009 —Thermcraft, Inc., the nationally recognized designer, manufacturer and marketer of high-quality custom and standard industrial and laboratory heaters, ovens and furnaces, has acquired Contemporary Kilns Inc., Thermcraft President Tom Crafton announced today.

Contemporary Kilns, formerly located in Novato, Calif., has specialized in engineering and manufacturing of the highest-quality custom kilns and ovens since 1964. The company is best known for the design and manufacture of annealing kilns for the quartz fabrication industry.

This acquisition complements Thermcraft’s existing equipment line, adding a new industrial market and further increasing their customer build-to-spec product line. One such addition made possible by the acquisition is a front-loading box furnace that operates at temperatures up to 1350°C, using silicon carbide heating elements. Because of its counter-balanced, vertical lift door, the door can be opened using only one hand and keeps the hot face of the door away from the operator, an important safety feature. With a heated, 24-inch cube chamber and a phase 3 power rating, this furnace is expected to quickly become an integral part of Thermcraft’s offerings.

“We see this acquistion as another demonstration of our continuous commitment to providing the best quality and up-to-date technology to our clients worldwide,” Crafton said. “We are constantly seeking opportunities to upgrade our capabilities as a way to ensure we provide our customers with all-encompassing solutions related to their high-heat equipment needs.”

Thermcraft has already begun the integration of Contemporary Kilns’ capabilities in their North Carolina-based manufacturing facility. Contemporary Kilns principal John Glossinger will remain as a consultant to ensure a smooth transition. Post-merger, all product-specific support will be handled directly through Thermcraft, Inc. and its worldwide team of sales representatives.

Since 1971, Thermcraft’s worldwide reputation has set the standard in the high-temperature heater and furnace industry. The global presence of their sales representatives and engineers creates the finest customer service for clients seeking custom design work, retrofitting of existing equipment or repairs. Thermcraft’s expanded product line includes ceramic heaters, ovens, furnaces, vacuum formed ceramic fiber heaters and diffusion furnace heaters, plus sensors, controls and other complementary products. When it comes to high-temperature operations, nobody takes the heat like Thermcraft.
